Throwing around the idea of becoming an entrepreneur? Great!
Becoming an entrepreneur is an exciting venture. It’s not for everyone, though.
When you’re considering starting a business, the first question to ask yourself is this: Why do you want to do it? Is it one of the reasons shown in this Entrepreneur.com infographic? (There’s lots of other interesting info here too, so take a minute to check it out.)
Money. The top reason people start their own business is because they want to make money – and a lot of it. When working for someone else, there can be a cap on how much can be earned. With entrepreneurship, the only limit is the one you set for yourself.
Flexibility. When you own a business, you can do whatever you want to do. This flexibility is what many people crave, and they are missing it when working for someone else.
Freedom. Freedom to make decisions is another common reason people decide to become an entrepreneur. When you’re the boss, you call the shots. This can be quite liberating when you look at the decisions made at the organization you are at now and wonder why the owners do what they do.
Better Teams. Have you ever looked at the people on your team and wondered why they were hired? When you own your business, you hire the people you believe will help you achieve your goals.
Lasting Legacy. Many people decide to be an entrepreneur because they want to leave a legacy behind for their children. It’s quite an achievement to run a successful business. It’s something to be proud of.
Did you find yourself shaking your head at most of these? Well, let’s see if you do the same for these other reasons.
Love of Learning. You love to learn new things. This excites you. It’s what makes you want to get up in the morning. You are what we call a lifelong learner. It’s a key trait for successful entrepreneurs.
Crazy Ideas. Have people ever told you that your ideas are crazy? Or do you keep your ideas to yourself because you know people would say they are crazy? The most successful entrepreneurs were told their ideas would never work, but guess what? They did.
Meaningful Creations. You want to create something that is meaningful. You don’t want to just go through the motions of work each day. You want to do something that is going to make a difference.
Improve the World. You have a deep inner desire to improve the world in some way. You know you have what it takes to make people’s lives better, and your business can do it.
The 9-to-5 Fails You. Your personality and creativity can’t fit into normal business hours. You want to do more than what can be done in that time frame. You need to manage your days the way that works for you and your life.
How do you feel now? If you’re like many entrepreneurs, you’re smiling because you just read most of the reasons you desire to become an entrepreneur.
The Next Step in Becoming an Entrepreneur
You need to do it. You know it’s there inside of you. Now, you need to bring it out and make it happen. But remember that entrepreneurs don’t do it alone; they do it with the help of others.
