Successful people appear to have confidence in spades. Some seem to be born with it; others have to work at it; but we all want it. This year, why not set a goal to become the person you’ve always wanted to be? Here are five ways to get you started on the path to having more confidence:
Give credit to your strengths. When you have success, write it down, tell a friend or reward yourself. This doesn’t mean you need to broadcast it to everyone, but giving yourself credit where credit is due will go a long way to boosting self-esteem. Apply these strengths in the workplace and in your relationships.
Be daring. Instead of looking for reasons not to try new things, challenge yourself. Trying something new can bring out previously undiscovered talents. You may find yourself with a new hobby, interesting friends, or a new favorite place to eat.
Get healthier. Find something that makes you feel healthy. This doesn’t mean getting ripped, running a marathon, or beginning a crazy diet, but simple exercising and eating well make for a good starting point. Taking on a physical challenge is a sure way to boost self-confidence. If you have a hard time pushing yourself or finding the motivation, join a sports team or fitness class. Some healthy peer pressure can be a good thing.
Go on more dates. Whether you are single, in a relationship, or married, getting out for social activities has proven to boost good feelings and increase confidence. (Don’t let a couple bad dates get you down!) Be more kind, more romantic, more giving, and you’ll be well on your way to better relationships.
Stop the doubt. You won’t gain confidence if you continuously doubt yourself. Try to identify where your self-doubt comes from and deal with anything that is bringing you down. You can’t lift others if you’re at the bottom, so set a goal to rise up and be better!
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is self-confidence. Giving yourself credit, being daring, getting healthy, dating more and doubting less are just a few ways you can become closer to the person you want to be.
